In Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, the most common way is to use “Win + PrntScr” key combo. This will take a screenshot and by default save it into the Pictures folder.
Below are a few other alternatives that you can use, or try. Have fun
1] Using” PrtScr” key
If you simply press the “PrtScn” key, on your kebourd, you will captured the screen in front of you and it will be saved to the clipboard. Then you can paste into whatever program you are using. eg Paint, Word, Excel, ect…
Also to take a screenshot of a particular window, “Alt+PrntScr”, will do that for you. First click on the window you wish to take a screenshot of in order to make it the active one, and snap, you get the idea. Now paste it anywhere you want.
2] Using “WinKey” + “PrntScr”
Capturing the whole screen at once is as easy as, just pressing the following key combinations, “WinKey + PrntScr” or “WinKey + Fn + PrntScr” .
While its capturing the screenshots, your computer screen will go dim for a split seconds to let you realize that its done. Screenshots are by default saved in the /User/Pictures/Screenshots folder.
3] Using Snipping Tool
Windows 8, has a new little tool called “The Snipping Tool”. this also lets you take screenshots, but with more control over what exactly you wish to screenshoot. All Simply open the Snipping Tool, click on “Win + PrntScr” and select the whole desktop.
4] Using the Share Charm
Windows 8.1 also added the ability to take a screenshot using the “Share charm”. This is only useful, if you want to share stuff with someone. It really doesn’t save the screenshot in any folder, it just opens the the “Charms bar” and then you click on “Share”. This gives you the option to share the screenshot to some of your installed Windows Store apps, (but.. the app has to support this). So, for example, if want to mail a screenshot, you can select the Mail option, then click on the app, this will take a screenshot of the the desktop or the active app, done
5] Got a Windows 8 device/tablet or a Surface tablet, with No PrntScr button?
Then you can try the “WinKey+Volume Down”, If the mobile device you are using is Windows based, then chances are you don’t have a “prnt scrn button”. In this case you can press “WinKey + Volume Down”, buttons on the device, altogether at the same time, you’ll find the screenshot capture will be saved in your Pictures/Screenshots folder.
6] Freeware & Third-party
There are also some other utilities for Windows, just Google “windows screenshoot applications”, you’ll see there’s heaps of them, all with their own unique features.
